i have known matt since those fateful high school administrators put our lockers were next to each other in grade 10. more accurately, he being the shy new kid knew me and actively avoided me while i knew nothing of him. when our circle of friends merged he realized that the girl behind the loud voice was actually okay. we became fast besties spending the next few years alternating between loving each other absolutely and absolutely not being able to stand each other.
being at his wedding was such a privilege and being able to shoot it was a total honour.
liz is his perfect match in every way. she tones him down where he needs it and builds him up in all the right places. i started the day at her house and immediately fell in love with her for having no drama whatsoever about getting married. she calmly went about getting ready while making sure everyone else was taken care of. she zipped herself into her mothers 1970’s banana fibre silk wedding dress that had been beautifully modernised and effortlessly glided into the biggest day of her life.
her and matt opted for a ‘first look’ and i’m so glad they did, our portrait shoot was unhurried and easy. i loved watching them together not only because i could see how happy they are, but they make beautiful photographs! liz is so unfussy that she could go anywhere, do anything. her short hair and easy make-up meant matt could really hold her and kiss her without worrying about mussing her up. everything was just too easy. and then my assistant tripped, sliced her foot open and proceeded to leak chunky blood all over our portrait shoot. but even she could not get enough of these two and when we suggested to take a time out for first aid, she insisted we keep on shooting.
the whole day was a photographers dream. the rustic charm of an old canadian city, great light, two lovely families sharing the joy with their photogenic newlyweds. what more could i ask for?
