close wedding

i probably should not have booked this wedding.

after 9 weeks in canada i had some serious jet lag and was gearing up for another wedding in malta scheduled for the next week. i was halfway between unpacking, packing, sleeping and roaming the house at all hours of the night.  i begrudged my past self for booking such a tight and exhausting schedule until i showed up at granny mouse country house and remembered why i couldn’t have turned this wedding down.

donne was even more radiant than when i first met her. with raven hair, italian features and long limbs, she is a photographer’s dream. above that, i shot at this venue last year but had to keep the images private upon request of my equally gorgeous italian bride so i was beyond delighted to have a re-do this year. there was no way i was not shooting this wedding.

after a heartfelt ceremony we went outside for family photos. as we got closer to the end of the formal shots, my energy began its jetlaggy slump. my assistant kept plying me with canapé’s because she knows that protein is the way to my heart, but as the sun began it’s breathtaking plunge over the rolling midlands hills, i was fading with it. luckily the videographer and dear friend, josh hundermark was also there to buoy me and between his assistant and mine all 4 of us took guy and donne into the grass for the creative portrait. suddenly time stood still, guy and donne fit together like two puzzle pieces which made my job so effortless. the light glowed around them while the breeze played with her veil. josh was electric with excitement over his footage and his energy pushed me to think more clearly through my tired fog. i allowed my gorgeous couple to just revel in each other and let the light guide me as to how to shoot them. i left the shoot hoping i got some nice shots and was delighted with how their photos turned out.

i’m starting to think i should shoot with jet lag more often, and simply step back a little, release control and let the beauty of the moment unfold before me.
